India: Cultural information

• Titles and status (determined by age, education and profession) are very important.
• Business communication styles are formal or informal depending on the level or status of the participants.
• When delegating a task, be precise about what needs to done and how. An unacceptable workload or incorrect estimation of time may be difficult for employees to identify and/or raise as areas of concern. Employees are unlikely to speak up/ complain, but will instead work harder.
• Relationships are very important. Focus first on getting to know each other as individuals. Do not focus on getting a specific task done if it jeopardizes maintaining a harmonious relationship.
• Long-lasting business relationships are highly valued and based on trust over time
• People typically keep more than one option open and pursue their in parallel until the very end.

Germany: Cultural information

• Given that efficiency is the rule,the decision- making process is rather top down.Do not be surprised if your superior makes decisions quickly and with out consulting team members.
• Directness is more appreciated than in Switzerland and Austria.Try to be direct and dont beat around bush.
• There is universal esteem for people in authority.Relationships between superiors and subordinates tend to be distant.
• Delegation is clear and precise
• High German is generally used in all situations(e.g. business,news,speeches) Though many dialects exist,High German is standard for business.
• Working relationships are more official in Germany. You should address your counterpart using there family name unless agreed for first name.
